What comes up for you when you think about coaching across cultural perspectives? If you’re a person of color or if you’re white -- as a coach, do you have a voice -- do you have a contribution to make in the equity coaching movement?
Some people of color see coaching as “too white” and wonder how to find their voice in this space. Meanwhile, some white coaches say, “I’m tired of walking on eggshells because I don’t know how to talk about race.” Whatever your race, as a coach you’re good at significant conversations -- so let’s talk about race & equity in coaching.
Some big questions that arise in the Coaching Equity Essentials program: What does “expertise” mean when it comes to DEI … and in any case, what would it take for coaches to feel empowered and capable enough to step into this work -- to lean forward rather than leaning back.
We’ll talk about imposter syndrome as a coach of color not being sure how to do this work -- and losing yourSELF in the implications of a racist society…. And how coaching has helped us step back towards our real selves. We’ll explore tools around deconstructing and reconstructing our stories -- and how to be in a place of honoring that story.
The goal is reflection for liberation. Courageous compassion. Regaining personhood. Walking on a journey where everyone becomes more whole.
This session will be led by Michael Eatman & Mariaelena Welch, together with additional members of the Coaching Equity Essentials faculty & cohorts.
