The European University Festival brings together the scientific, academic, and institutional communities most committed to addressing climate change. Science can name the problem. Policy can frame solutions. But sustained engagement with the climate crisis also requires something less often discussed: the emotional capacity to face an uncertain future together.
On May 21, as the Festival officially launches, Six Seconds — Ethical Partner of the Festival — invites participants to a virtual Climate of Emotions experience, designed for this community of students, innovators, journalists, and changemakers.
Climate of Emotions (COE) is a community-based emotional resilience program developed by Six Seconds. It is grounded in the recognition that the climate crisis is unlike other emergencies — there is no “after,” no return to normal. Meeting this reality over the long term requires more than information or policy; it requires the inner capacity to stay present, connected, and engaged.
The session guides participants through COE’s three-phase pathway — Feel, Imagine, Grow — moving from shared reflection on climate emotions, through creative expression and a sense of agency, toward collective commitment and action. This is an engaging, participatory experience in which the primary work happens in small groups. Our research, conducted with the Yale Education Collaboratory, demonstrates measurable reductions in climate anxiety alongside increases in resilience, connection, and sense of agency among participants.
Who should attend
University students, faculty, journalists, company representatives, and anyone who wants to understand how emotional intelligence supports climate resilience and action. Registered participants will receive preparatory materials in advance, including the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence (SEI) assessment and a brief pre-survey — both designed to deepen your engagement with the experience.
About Climate of Emotions
Climate of Emotions (COE) is a community-based emotional resilience program developed by Six Seconds to support wellbeing in the face of the climate crisis. COE addresses an often overlooked dimension of climate change: its emotional impacts on people and communities. The program recognizes that the climate crisis is fundamentally different from a single emergency event — there is no “after” in which life returns to normal, and communities need tools to build resilience in the face of an ongoing, uncertain future. Research conducted with the Yale Education Collaboratory demonstrates measurable reductions in climate anxiety alongside increases in resilience, connection, and sense of agency. www.6seconds.org/climate
