When a feeling shows up with strong advice, what do you do — ignore it, obey it, or consult it?
Good decisions need good data. Yet many of us have been trained, especially at work, to skimp on one whole category of it: emotional data. We’re told to “keep feelings out of it,” so we suppress the signal. Or a feeling grabs the wheel and we react, then call it a decision. Neither one is using the information.
Emotion Rule #3 from Joshua Freedman’s new book Emotion Rules offers a third option: emotions are great advisors, but horrible bosses. In this hands-on session, you’ll convene your own Emotional Advisory Board around a real decision you’re facing, hear what each feeling is advising and why, and then decide — as chair, not as the loudest voice at the table.
You’ll leave with:
- A practical way to gather emotional data before a decision instead of after
- Your own advisory board map: what your key emotions are protecting, valuing, and recommending
- A clear picture of which feeling has been acting as boss lately, and what to do about it
Who should attend: Leaders and managers making decisions under pressure, HR and L&D professionals, coaches and trainers, and anyone who suspects their gut has more to say than they’ve been letting it.
Why join live: Everyone who signs up gets the recording link, but the board meeting only works if you’re at the table. You’ll work with a real decision, name real feelings, and think it through with people in small groups — that’s where the shift happens.
